Hi Everyone!
My name’s Alex Brenock and I’m a sophomore at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont.
I’m originally from Medway, Mass, which is this teeny tiny town about 45 minutes out of Boston. It’s really nice because everyone knows each other and I have so many great friends there, but I’m so happy to be here in Vermont!
I've loved growing up in Massachusetts - my town is a nice little suburban town with a high school that's about half the size of Saint Mike's. I have a great family with two super supportive parents & a twin brother. My brother & I are great friends and I really miss him while I'm at school. But, he's at NYU and I'm proud of him for being such a smartie! He's also crazy good at guitar.
Right now I work at a local camp and at a pet fish store (weird mix there, right?). I absolutely love working at camp, and it definitely confirmed my belief that I want to work with kids. Which brings me to my next point...my major!
So far I've changed my major three times...and I've only been here for a year! Right now I am pursuing a Psychology major with a minor in Business Administration. I'm thinking about becoming a child psychologist after college & grad school, but I'm not exactly sure yet. I was originally an Elementary Education major, so if you have any questions about that program, I can definitely answer those too!
I've also gotten involved in a lot of things here at Saint Mike's. I'm obviously a Student Blogger, and I just became a Tour Guide - I love helping prospective and incoming students! Through MOVE (Community Service group) I've participated in a few community service events, and I joined LBLS (Little Brother, Little Sister). I love being a "Big Sister," and although it's a four-year commitment, I'm already so happy that I joined. I've joined the Liturgical Choir, so I practice with them every Wednesday evening and sing at church every Sunday night. It's a really wonderful group, and I never had singing experience before joining! They accept singers and musicians of all skill levels, and the music director - Jerome Monachino - is a great guy. Starting this year I'm also part of the LINK team; LINK is a part of VITA (Campus Ministry). Together with my friend Merrill I run Dessert & Divine once a month - we bake assorted sweets and discuss various religious topics. Lastly, I'm a T.A. for a First Year Seminar class, Horses & Healing. I took the class my first semester of freshman year & I'm thrilled that I'm able to help out in this class again.
And did I mention the $30 Smuggler's Notch Ski Pass. That's right - a season pass for only $30! It's crazy! I should probably mention that, for me, the only downside to SMC is the cold winters. I really don't like the cold...like at all. And the only thing that keeps me sane all winter long? Skiing! I've skied for fun since about fifth grade, and I'm excited to keep that up. I also plan on learning to snowboard, but we'll see how much I can stand to fall before I go right back to skiing!
If it's not obvious, I'm so happy to be a part of the welcoming Saint Mike's community!
And finally, the Top Five Things you Need to Know About ME:
1. I'm 4'11" - let's just get it all out there, I am SHORT
2. I lovee baking (especially cupcakes!)
3. I'm really interested in the Holocaust...but strangely it's something I am not majoring in whatsoever, despite reading numerous books on the subject and even taking an online high school class about it.
4. I will repeat myself a LOT - and I will talk about everything that's on my mind (accidentally, of course)
5. I am very organized - I love lists & sticky notes!
